2021 Waseca Dairy Princess
The Waseca Dairy Princess for 2021 is Jadyn White.
Congratulations Jadyn!
This is Jadyn’s second term of Waseca County Dairy Princess. She loves showing her passion for Dairy. Jadyn is currently involved with working with Klassic Holsteins Dairy, in Waseca County. She sees new obstacles everyday, but enjoys overcoming them. Jadyn wants to teach others that Dairy Farming is a lot of work, you can’t just miss a day. Animals need to be tended to many times a day, everyday. Being involved with Dairy has taught Jadyn that it is very important to have patience with animals and even people.
Jadyn loves being a leader and teaching others about dairy. She is currently the Treasurer of the Waseca FFA Chapter and has held many leadership roles within Waseca County 4-H. She looks forward to continuing to learn more about the dairy industry and continuing her education.
Her suggestion to all is “Support Dairy Farmers by consuming Dairy Products”

2020 Waseca County Dairy Princesses
2020 has been a trying year for most of us. One thing that changed this year was the Dairy Princess Contest. Since there was not an opportunity for these fine candidates to compete, all applicants were awarded the title of Dairy Princess for their County. Waseca County was very lucky having 3 very deserving candidates.
Abiding by the Covid Policies, interviews with the SWCD were conducted via email. Since there are 3 Dairy Princesses, the same questions were asked of each of them.
1. What does being a Dairy Princess mean to you?
2. What life goals have you made by being involved with Dairy?
3. If you had to name one important thing about Dairy Farming, what would that be?
4. What is the most important message that you would like people to know about Dairy?
5. How long have you been involved in Dairy operations?
6. How important is Dairy in our lives and the lives of future generations?
7. Do you have a fun way of teaching younger people about cows, calves, goats or about the products they provide for us?
8. What are some of the downfalls you have experienced in dairy production and how do you handle them?
9. What are some of the uplifting things you have experienced in dairy production and what was/is the outcome?
10. Anything you wish to summarize or submit.
Here are their answers as submitted with some pictures they chose to include:

Meet Brooke Jahr
1. Being a Dairy Princess to me means helping and growing the dairy industry and teaching people what the dairy industry is about. I am a dairy princess, I can do these things.
2. Some life goals I have achieved are goal setting. I set a goal I want to achieve with my dairy cow project and I achieve it. Another goal I have achieved is teaching people why we need the dairy industry.
3. One important thing that would be health. When you have dairy in your body, it makes you healthier. Dairy has a rich source of calcium, which is absorbed by the body. There are many other things that make it healthy such as it makes your bones stronger.
4. I would like people to know that we need to keep supporting these small farm dairies because the more dairies the better.
5. I have been involved in Dairy for about 4 years. I have shown dairy cows and helped out dairy farms.
6. It is very important because dairy is very good for your body. People need dairy products to become healthier.
7. You could start by teaching them what things they eat and drink that are dairy and have them realize how stuff is dairy products.
8. Some downfalls are small town dairies going out because not enough money or support. One way to overcome it, is having as many people possible supporting these farms.
9. The connection you create with the cows. It has a great outcome because it makes raising dairy fun.
10. Keep supporting the dairy industry as much as you can.

Meet Laura Jahr
1. What being a Dairy Princess means to me is teaching young kids about the Dairy Industry, meeting new Farmers, talking to a group of people about what I know about the Industry.
2. Some life goals I have made is getting to know the nutrition of milk. How to show dairy cattle, the different kinds of chesses and how they are made.
3. One of the most important things about being a Dairy Farmer is the nutrition and care for the cattle. Another thing that is most important is the milk, making sure that the cow isn’t sick and the udders are properly cleaned.
4. A message I would like people to know is milk is used for everything, from feeding babies and us drinking milk, to using milk to make food.
5. I have been involved with the Dairy industry for 4 years. I am also the Waseca County Dairy Superintendent.
6. Dairy is a big part of our lives. From drinking it, to eating cheese, to making different meals. Dairy helps us grow.
7. I like teaching the younger people what I know about the Dairy Industry. An example could be: Where does cheese come from? Where does milk come from?
8. Some downfalls are having the milkers not work. We would have to find a way to fix them or have them replaced. Another downfall would be having a cow or goat that does not produce the amount of milk it’s supposed to. A way to fix it would be to take the animals temperature to see if they are sick.
9. Some uplifting things are meeting new people and working with the animals.
10. Keep supporting the Dairy Industry.

Meet Jadyn White
1. Being a Dairy Princess to me means I am able to show my community how important dairy is for a you and your family.
2. To try to get the dairy industry from failing by promoting people to consume more dairy products.
3. The consumers. Without consumers the dairy industry would not be where it is at today.
4. ***
5. I’ve been involved with dairy for 8 years with 4-H and FFA helping me continuing to show my love for dairy cows.
6. Dairy is very important. It’s not all about walking through the grocery store and seeing the product on the shelf, it’s about all the work a farmer goes through to get that milk. Farming is not cheap and if we switch to plant based milks and products many more dairy operations and farm will soon shut down.
7. For National FFA Week, I’ve brought in a calf for the 7th and 8th graders for kiss the farm animal. I love showing off the dairy animals and teaching kids where milk really comes from.
8. I’ve watched the price of milk drop and when covid 19 hit I watched a lot of farmers have to pour their milk out. Dairy farming is not easy and takes many countless hours. Its really hard to handle things when it’s out of your control but all you have to do is keep providing the public with information on dairy.
9. I love the bond I get with the calves and cows when you’re with them all the time. You tend to create an unbreakable bond that lasts their lifetime.
10. I have been leasing dairy heifers for 4-H for 8 years and also compete in Dairy Handling for FFA. I have been able to compete at the state level for both. I was first introduced to the Dairy Industry by my mom’s coworker. Her family helped me find my love for cows there. Leasing dairy has been the best choice for me. I come from a family of horses and never came out of my comfort zone. I can't tell you which one I prefer; they both have pushed me to my limits and taught me so many things. I love showing and teaching others about the dairy industry; in the fall for one of my classes I was able to bring a yearling into school and show my classmates on how to handle and get ready for a show. In February I was able to show the 7th and 8th graders my love for calves at Kiss the Farm Animal for National FFA Week, by bringing a calf to school. I love being a leader and teaching others about Dairy. I am the Sentinel of the Waseca FFA Chapter and have been many leaders for my 4-H club. I work on Klassic Holsteins Dairy farm. A small local dairy farm in Waseca, MN. I look forward to learning more about the dairy industry and furthering the education of others.
